ABOUT THE CLUB
Weston Skating Club (WSC) brings benefits of the ice facility at
Rivers School to town residents and employees. It is a collaborative
effort between the Weston Recreation Department and volunteer citizens.
The Club seeks to build a skating culture in Weston by sponsoring
skating and hockey programs for all ages.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL THE PROGRAMS. SORRY, WE CANNOT
ALLOW "WALK-INS".
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE LEARN TO SKATE LESSONS THIS SEASON.
SUNDAY OPEN SKATING
Open Skating takes place on Sundays from 4-6pm. It will begin November 22, 2009 and end February 28, 2010. Open Skating is free to members. Helmets are mandatory for children during the Open Skate session.
GOALS FOR INSTRUCTION, FIGURE SKATING, HOCKEY
INSTRUCTION CURRICULUM. The Club is focused on proper instruction
for figure and hockey skaters.
BASIC SKILLS. The curriculum which the Club follows can be found at www.usfsa.org/programs. WSC sponsors beginning through moderately
advanced classes following the Basic Skills 1-8 program for ages
4 through adult. As a larger base of young and adult skaters materializes
in future years, we anticipate offering more advanced instruction
levels. Within limits imposed by ice availability, the Club also
tries to accommodate those wanting private lessons by working with
the talented professional instructors who teach Basic Skills for
us.
HOCKEY. Weston children have learned hockey by playing in surrounding
towns, especially in the Waltham and Wellesley Youth Hockey programs,
www.walthamyouthhockey.org and
www.wellesleyyouthhockey.org.
Young players are encouraged to combine our
Basic Skills classes with their Youth Hockey programs. Additionally, to increase participation in hockey for girls, WSC offers a girl's hockey program for K-8th grade. This program is developmental and skills-based for girls of all levels.
The Club has active programs for adult players. An Adult no-check
hockey group, primarily for men but also open to experienced women,
plays on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings. Women's hockey for beginning through experienced
levels meets Tuesday and Friday mornings. WSC also welcomes residents
who simply enjoy skating. The Club has reserved time each Sunday
afternoon for Family Skating. See
"Skating and Hockey Programs" in the left-hand margin for specific
descriptions. Registration forms may be downloaded from that section.
Registration is handled by the Weston Recreation Department.
